During the last four weeks of my stay with Outdoorportofino I focused mostly on snorkeling tours and the children’s camps called “Scuola Natura”. I had a chance to get acquainted with the specifics of snorkeling equipment, wich includes various types of wetsuits, masks, snorkels and fins; and all are used for diferent levels of advance. I got familiar also with safety rules, first aid and most common dangerous wich can be met as doing snorkeling in this area such as jellyfish. I was told all the rules of conduct that have to be obeyed during snorkeling in the protected marine area. Finally I took part in snorkeling tours as an second instructor.
Then I had a chance to see how the children’s camps “Scuola Natura” are organised from the very beginning registration part till the and. This is an weekly activity organised every year during the summer holiday. It is dedicated to children from 7 up to 14 years old. During the whole week children have chance to try every water sport offered by Outdoorportofino. They are also tought all the safety rules connected to sea area. They learn also about the ecology and protection of sea environment. The time is devided between playing on the sea and learning. I was invited to take part in such a camp during wich I could learn how to organize all activities. I also was able to translate from Italian to Polish as some of the children were Polish.
During this time I was also asked to help with the organization of the “5° Miglio Blu di Portofino” – Amateurs swimming challenge in the Marine Protected Area of Portofino open to everyone
The Blue Mile of Portofino is a non competitive challenge open to all the sea and nature lovers, both amateurs and athletes, of all ages. The event allows participants to swim in the Marine Protected Area of Portofino, one of the most striking places in Italy, in total safety. Race participants are accompanied by an escort. There is also a rescue motorboat with two doctors on the board. The whole event requires the precise organization and commitment of many people and is one of the most interesting sporting events in the area.
