My experience at Ok Hostel Madrid continues with the same enthusiasm and with new skills that strengthen my self-control at work. I further deepened the use of Cloudbeds and I have understood how to manage the different booking status: Not refundable, Standard Rate, Pending Confirmation and Extranet of Booking. Now I can manage the Calendar section with more familiarity. Also, creating a new reservation for the Walk-in, is no longer complicate for me. I’m beginning to assimilate well this first part of my experience as receptionist.

Moreover, during the last two weeks, I was involved in the management of the social events organized by the hostel. First of all, I have Iearned how to organize the so-called “social dinner” which is a really important moment according to Diogo, the manager of the hostel. In fact, eating a paella or one of the specialties of the chefs (Giovanny and Gustavo) is the perfect context for meet new friends. The menu is different every day and it costs just 10 euros. Our guests can have a salad, a first dish, a dessert and even the free open bar is included in the price.

What’s the most essential is the synergy and the synchrony of the team. It happened sometimes that we had to manage about 40 people at the dinner and we needed to have the housekeeper, the other receptionist (we are always two), the chefs and the pubcrawl responsible perfectly synchronized.

An aspect that I really appreciate of Ok Hostel is that our activities are always finalized to create a familiar atmosphere. This is not always easy considering that the hostel can have up to 175 hosts. The owners and Diogo confer a lot of importance to this aspect. Their purpose, that now is also my purpose, is to make travellers feel like at home because how they always say: “a stranger is just a friend you don’t know” 🙂 !
