I am Shamieka Richardson from Sint Maarten. My primary business idea is Spirited Away SXM, a mobile bar service. I am now expanding this vision to include a non-profit organization dedicated to helping the less fortunate.
I discovered the Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs (EYE) program through a close friend who previously participated. I decided to apply because I recognized a significant opportunity to learn, grow my business idea, and gain essential skills. The expected benefits included practical business knowledge and mentorship, which I have received and surpassed.
My Host, Jason, and his wife, have provided a wonderful and supportive learning environment, which has been especially meaningful as we share the same Christian faith. This experience has been transformative, offering not only professional development but also profound personal and spiritual growth here in Spain.

My activities were guided by the 5-month plan, focusing on operational excellence for my mobile bar, Spirited Away SXM.
• Activities: I spent M1 immersing myself in operations, learning menu structure, and observing service flow. M2 focused on inventory management and supplier sourcing best practices. In M3, I researched niche market analysis and digital branding strategies. M4 involved brainstorming and refining revenue-generating ideas for my business model, and documenting all key learnings.
• Host Relationship: My Host, Jason, provided structured, faith-based mentorship. Our relationship was built on shared Christian values, creating a highly supportive and professional environment. He was instrumental in explaining the “why” behind EU hospitality standards and finance, moving beyond simple task assistance to offer true strategic guidance and personal encouragement.

The EYE exchange yielded substantial benefits, providing a strong launchpad for Spirited Away SXM and my non-profit.
• Skills Developed: I mastered crucial skills in financial modeling (budgeting and cash flow), operational efficiency (inventory and supplier management), and strategic marketing (niche analysis and digital branding). These skills are fundamental for the sustainability of both ventures.
• Future Cooperation & Contacts: I secured a basis for ongoing mentorship with my Host, Jason, ensuring continued strategic guidance. I also built valuable contacts within the European hospitality network, expanding my professional support system significantly.
• Personal Growth: A major benefit was the profound personal and spiritual growth experienced in Spain. This strengthened my commitment to my faith and to the community-focused mission of my business. The exchange provided both professional expertise and deep personal clarity.
Just like the movie title that inspired my business, this EYE exchange truly ‘Spirited Me Away’ to a place of immense growth. I came here with an idea and am leaving with a fully realized mission, fueled by mentorship, faith, and a renewed purpose.
