Hello, my name is Luca and I’m 36 years old. I studied cinema and worked in the film industry for a period of my life as an assistant director. Later, I continued working in cinema as a screenwriter, and that’s when my relationship with books became much deeper. Over the years, I have also worked as an educator, and during my most recent experience in Sicily, working with young people at risk of dropping out of school, the idea was born to open a bookstore and cultural center in a place where it seems almost impossible to find one.
I discovered the EYE program thanks to a friend who had taken part in it in the ceramic crafts sector, also in Barcelona. He was the one who recommended the bookstore where I eventually carried out my exchange. So, I set off for Barcelona and joined the wonderful bookstore Le Nuvole, managed by Cecilia Ricciarelli — a dynamic and inspiring woman who organizes and leads many cultural activities related to the bookstore.
Cecilia and I immediately bonded over our shared passion for cinema — she also holds a degree and a PhD in this field. From the very beginning, she showed great trust in me, and in return, I observed her carefully and committed myself to understanding how a bookseller works.
These were wonderful months, both personally and professionally, full of valuable hands-on experience. Specifically, I learned how to use a bookstore management software (Winvaria), how to place book orders, and how to handle the communication of a bookstore event.
I am happy and satisfied with the experience I had because I learned how to live and manage a small cultural business while turning it into an active cultural space. I take with me the cultural approach that Cecilia promotes in her bookstore. She is a precious contact, and we have promised to start future collaborations together.
There may be many problems today, but if we roll up our sleeves, tomorrow there will be fewer.
