I’m a documentary editor and filmmaker. Before joining EYE, I had completed an MA in Documentary Film and was developing a business focused on editing, post-production, and story development for independent filmmakers.

I discovered EYE while looking for ways to strengthen my entrepreneurial skills and deepen my understanding of the European documentary industry. The program seemed like a unique opportunity to learn directly from an established entrepreneur while contributing my own experience and perspective.

For my exchange, I joined Mosaic Producciones in Mallorca, led by documentary filmmaker and producer Miguel Eek. Mosaic specializes in creative documentaries and organizes MajorDocs, Mallorca’s first international documentary film festival. I hoped to gain insight into how a successful production company operates while expanding my network and developing skills to grow my own business.

During my six months at Mosaic, I contributed to both creative and operational work, editing trailers, teasers, social media content, a branded commercial, and a feature documentary, while participating in planning and development meetings. What made the experience especially meaningful was Mosaic’s collaborative spirit. Documentary filmmaking can often be demanding and uncertain, but Mosaic approaches the work with both seriousness and generosity. Over time, I became fully integrated into the team’s daily life. Working closely with Miguel was a highlight: his work ethic and commitment to documentary filmmaking deepened my admiration for him. His mentorship offered valuable lessons not only about filmmaking, but also about building a sustainable and values-driven career in the industry. By the end of the six months, Mallorca felt less like a temporary destination and more like a place where I had built genuine professional and personal connections.

The exchange had a lasting impact on my professional development and business plans. I gained hands-on experience with professional documentary workflows, learned about the Spanish documentary ecosystem, and clarified my vision for my freelance editing business.

One unexpected benefit was the opportunity to contribute to DocThinks, an emerging international platform for nonfiction film professionals. Through this project, I was able to share my own networks and industry knowledge while helping to support a new initiative with exciting potential.

Most importantly, I built relationships that extend beyond the program. I plan to continue collaborating with Mosaic Producciones on future documentary projects, and the connections I made during the exchange have strengthened my place within the European documentary community. What began as a learning opportunity has evolved into an ongoing professional partnership and a network that I believe will support my emerging professional practice.

Working alongside Miguel and the Mosaic team showed me that it is possible to build a sustainable business without compromising creative ambition or values. Experiencing Mosaic’s culture of trust, curiosity, and mutual support strengthened my determination to do the same.
