Last October, I began a journey I will never forget. Thanks to the Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs program (through Materahub), I had the opportunity to spend six months at Piena, an independent Italian bookshop in Lisbon, passionately and wholeheartedly run by Sara and Elisa.
From the very first day, I felt that this place was something special: a heaven for those who love reading, creativity, and a true sense of community. A place where every book is carefully selected and every event is designed to bring people together.

Over the course of this experience, I was enriched not only on a professional level, but also on a deeply personal one. I took part in organizing workshops, book presentations and shared readings. I met authors, illustrators, loyal customers and curious visitors. I had the chance to observe, up close, what it really means to care for a cultural space and to make it a meaningful part of the city.
One of the most moving moments came when Elisa and Sara entrusted me with the presentation of a debut book — Stelle per pianeti by Alessio Parmigiani — during the Italian Film Festival in Lisbon this past April. It was a truly meaningful moment, almost symbolic: not only did it mark the perfect ending to my EYE project, but I felt seen, appreciated, and like a real part of something bigger.

Over time, I developed a sincere, trusting relationship with both of them. They welcomed, supported and guided me. They believed in me from the start. Today, I can honestly say I’ve found not only two mentors, but two dear friends.
In these months, we’ve also shared many dreams for the future. Sara and Elisa are considering an exciting step: moving to a larger space to transform the bookshop into a literary café. Although nothing is confirmed yet, they’ve offered me the chance to stay and work with them. Just the thought moves me deeply. Being invited to contribute to such a vibrant and meaningful project fills me with pride — and feels like a strong sign that maybe there is room in this world for my dreams, too.
These months have helped me clarify what I’d like to build: a small, cozy space, carefully curated, where books, good food and human connection come together. A place where anyone who walks in feels welcomed, understood and inspired.

At the end of this program, I take with me so much inspiration, new skills and, above all, a renewed confidence in myself. This journey has made me feel stronger, more capable and more full — and for that, I’ll always be deeply grateful.
