During the first part of my stay, I became closely acquainted with the work of the Spanish publishing house and gradually understood how its different departments operate. I personally met the staff. I had the opportunity to observe their workflow: how they communicate with authors, negotiate with international partners, and plan the release of upcoming books. This helped me to better understand the dynamics inside a professional publishing team.
One of the key areas of my learning was drafting contracts. Step by step, Moisés Barcia introduced me to the process of preparing agreements with authors, translators, and illustrators. It was fascinating to see how carefully every clause is checked, especially when it comes to international rights and translations. I realized how important legal precision is in publishing and had the chance to complete practical tasks to consolidate this knowledge.
Another important achievement for me was translation work. I translated a book from Galician into Ukrainian. This was not only a linguistic challenge but also a cultural one, since Galician has unique expressions and metaphors. I learned how to preserve the author’s voice while at the same time making the text accessible and engaging for Ukrainian readers. This task gave me a strong sense of responsibility and showed me the true value of cultural bridges created through translation.
Moisés Barcia devoted a great deal of attention to me. He was patient, supportive, and generous in sharing professional knowledge. He explained the nuances of publishing work — from design principles to sales strategies — and offered numerous practical tips. For example, I learned how to use modern digital tools that speed up editing, how to approach negotiations with international partners more effectively, and how to manage time efficiently when working on several projects at once. Such “life hacks” will be extremely useful for me in my future career.
Beyond the professional experience, I truly value the warm atmosphere that Moisés Barcia created. Every day I felt included in the work, motivated to ask questions, and encouraged to try new tasks. This supportive environment inspired me to step out of my comfort zone and take initiative.
Looking ahead, I expect the second half of my stay to be no less interesting and productive. I would like to become more involved in editorial decision-making, deepen my knowledge of rights management, and perhaps take part in planning a publishing project from the very beginning. I believe that this experience will not only enrich me professionally but also inspire me to introduce new practices in my own publishing work back home.
