Halfway Reflections – Growth, Gratitude & Good Vibes in La Gomera
Over halfway through my exchange – wow, how fast time flies! These past months have been full of new experiences, exploration, and connection. From discovering the stunning surroundings to navigating the rhythm of local life, I’ve been learning how to balance it all—what to do, when, how, and with whom.
I’ve met people from all walks of life: travelers, digital nomads, locals, and expats. The Canary Islands know how to celebrate, and I’ve been lucky to take part in traditional festivals like Romería and Carnaval. These were incredible cultural immersions—dancing, laughter, and community spirit. But they were also intense, and I found myself needing to step back for rest and reflection. That’s when my background in holistic wellness really came into play: how to come back from late night celebrations into balance!
Rebeca, my host, has been an amazing guide—always ready to share her local knowledge, tips, and honest support. But at times, it even felt like we swapped roles a bit—me offering mental support when things got overwhelming for her. But that’s what this exchange has become: mutual growth. We often joke about how we’re always just about to say or do the same thing. That connection is rare and special.
One of the most significant milestones so far: I’ve created and launched my very first retreat. While I haven’t yet reached the minimum number of participants, I’m so proud of myself. This experience pushed me out of my comfort zone—building my social media presence, creating something from scratch, and promoting it all on a tight timeline. It’s been a huge learning curve and a confidence boost.
The past few weeks have brought more independence. Rebeca has been busy with her projects, but she’s still checking in and supporting me when she can. In the meantime, I’ve kept moving forward, step by step.
At this point, my motto is: Anything is possible! I’m showing up, doing the work, and trusting the process. I’m filled with gratitude—for the challenges, the support, the growth, and the community that’s forming around me.
Let’s see where the next days and weeks will take me.
