So far the experience has been good. I worked on his different portfolios (architecture in NY, art reproduction and installation view), I joined him with his clients (for the NGO One bridge to, for a metal industry, for a huge supermarket of fruits and vegetables), created some photographic and video content for his social media and for his events.
Challenges
Nevertheless, there has been one significant challenge about my role in the organisation of an event. It was the ARTWEEK: one week of exhibits and event around contemporary art at the same time as the feria of Verona. the main theme was the earth. I was supposed to create all the posts and to manage Instagram. I felt excluded while I was expecting a lot from that.
On my side, I didn’t do enough and they didn’t let me do more (I only made some posts finally), even if I felt capable of it, I’m used to work on this kind of event management. So I decided to work on my photographic skills during the events instead. But from his point of view, it was a success in two ways : I was able to do some work and such on short notice. It was hard for them with the last minute organisation to integrate me in the team. Thus, we talked about it, and it was good to understand each other point of view. Since then, I have more tasks to do, but there’s any events coming up, so we won’t be able to see if we do it better.
We also had the challenge of the language, not between us but with other persons he works with. It is hard for them to take the habit to switch in english and I am still not good enough in Italian to understand what is going on, 100% of the time. So I keep learning Italian, and they try to implement this habit. This limit blocks me for having more responsibilities I think.
Objectives of the program
Otherwise I discovered the world of contemporary art, architecture photography. The objectives are being met like for example, my Italian is improving, I am working on communication strategies for the social media of Tommasoli Visual Factory and the Archivio Tommasoli, crowdfunding strategies for the opening of the future photographic museum in Verona managed by Archivio Tommasoli, we are planning to apply to some grants for his different movies projects, I am creating two different types of newsletters for his networks, I am helping him to organize and plan a new project in New York City. I am not learning new skills but I am improving the ones that I have.
