Approaching the halfway point of this exchange, I’ve found it valuable to reflect on what’s unfolded so far—both the learning and the challenges. Initially, my expectations were somewhat higher; given my existing experience in video editing and content creation, I was hoping to dive into meaningful contributions quickly. However, it took some time to determine precisely how I could best assist my host entrepreneur. Additionally, there was a period spent waiting for my proposals to be reviewed and approved, which delayed my ability to make substantial contributions early on.
After this initial phase, I’ve now been able to take on more concrete responsibilities, including revamping the company website, assisting with content creation, and laying the groundwork for a podcast. Each of these tasks has provided valuable hands-on experience, although I occasionally feel that the potential for growth could be greater. Working in this international setting has given me new perspectives, but I believe my skills could be better utilized if the role allowed for more strategic involvement rather than purely operational tasks.
A notable challenge has been adapting my approach to fit within the company’s existing framework. While I had several ideas, the process to get them approved and integrated into our workflow has been slower than anticipated. One ongoing project has been the website redesign, which I initiated based on feedback from the host entrepreneur. Despite some initial logistical and communication barriers, this has taught me how to adapt and find ways to contribute effectively within the limitations present.
In terms of program objectives, I believe I am meeting them to a degree, but perhaps not with the depth I initially expected. While I am gaining insights into the business management processes, I am also aware that the tasks assigned so far don’t fully push the boundaries of what I’d hoped to achieve here. I have been able to observe and support content planning and project groundwork but would appreciate more involvement in the strategic aspects of business decision-making, which would align better with my professional goals.
Looking forward, I hope to deepen my involvement by proposing more initiatives that align with my expertise in video content and marketing strategies. If possible, I would like to assume more responsibility in overseeing projects or shaping the content strategy itself. Additionally, establishing clearer communication with my host could help to set a more streamlined process for approving and implementing ideas, which I think would benefit both parties.
Despite the challenges, this experience has reinforced the importance of adaptability and patience in a professional exchange setting. I am realizing that taking the initiative, even when the response is slower than expected, remains essential. While I had hoped to experience faster-paced professional growth, the insights I am gaining on managing expectations and navigating cross-cultural business dynamics are proving to be valuable lessons for my career.
