If I had to describe my background, I’d call it a bit of a ‘creative-technical’ mix. I spent my university years studying humanities, languages and literature, which gave me a huge appreciation for culture, communication, and the way people think. But as I moved into the professional world, I found myself doing marketing, QA engineering or combining the two. It sounds like a weird combination, but I love the balance between being creative and being a somewhat of a perfectionist when it comes to details and quality.
Why did I decide to join the EYE program? I would say, it wasn’t exactly a random choice. I’ve been an ‘Erasmus fan’ for a while now – I studied abroad in France and took part in international youth exchanges back in the day. Those experiences changed me, so when I heard about EYE – simply by searching up on the internet opportunities for young people wanting to start a business – this came up and it felt like the “adult” version of that Erasmus journey. It wasn’t about wanting to live abroad again but about curiosity and challenge. I wanted to see the behind the scenes of a foreign business and how an entrepreneur handles the day-to-day stress, the local regulations, and the community aspect, things you just can’t learn from a textbook or from youtube.
I believe this experience is enriching in many ways for me, both professionally and personally. On the career side, I’m learning to adapt again and again, a thing that is mandatory for someone wanting to potentially start a business. Learning how a local business entity in Spain operates while trying to help them with their digital presence is forcing me to think in a totally new context and adapt my strategies so they work across cultures. On a human level, it’s all about the fast-forward growth that comes from being out of your comfort zone.
Trying to master Spanish while building professional relationships is humbling, rewarding and funny all at once. It’s teaching me patience, resilience, and the reminder that at the end of the day, business is just people helping people, adapting and experimenting. Moreover, I am very lucky to be matched with a female entrepreneur that’s warm, welcoming, open and willing to learn together. Over the past weeks, we clicked instantly. We’ve spent hours talking, exchanging ideas, filming material for social media and laughing. The collaboration has been genuinely fun and productive and I’m looking forward to the next months.
