My name is Sebastiaan van Esch, and I am a business student with a strong interest in entrepreneurship, innovation, and luxury products. During my studies I have developed a growing fascination for the watch industry and the world of horology, where craftsmanship, heritage, and branding come together in a unique way. I am particularly interested in how traditional industries can remain relevant for new generations of consumers while preserving the authenticity and passion that define them.
Currently, I am participating in an exchange programme at Alias Group, an organisation that develops innovation projects and supports companies in creating new ideas, concepts, and strategies. This experience allows me to explore how innovation can be applied within different sectors and how businesses adapt to changing markets and consumer expectations. It has strengthened my interest in entrepreneurship and in building concepts that connect tradition with modern customer experiences.
I decided to participate in the Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs programme because I want to learn directly from experienced entrepreneurs and gain insight into how businesses are developed in practice. While studying provides an important theoretical foundation, I believe the most valuable lessons come from observing real decision-making, understanding challenges, and seeing how opportunities are identified and developed within a company.
Another motivation is the opportunity to gain international experience. Working with entrepreneurs in another country exposes you to different perspectives, business cultures, and approaches to innovation. This kind of experience not only broadens your understanding of entrepreneurship but also helps you develop a more flexible and open mindset.
I believe this programme can contribute significantly to both my professional and personal growth. Professionally, it will help me better understand how entrepreneurs build and manage a business on a daily basis, from strategic thinking to client relationships and long-term development. Personally, living and working in a new environment encourages independence, adaptability, and confidence. I see this experience as an important step in developing the knowledge, mindset, and network that will help me pursue my long-term goal of starting my own business.
