Hi, I’m Louise. I graduated from HEC Montreal, Canada, in Marketing and Project Management in 2018. I worked a year in communication, first in health and then in the security sector and I didn’t like it. I thought communication was not for me. Thus, I decided to do a master degree in European Politics at the European Institue based in Nice, in France. I wanted to change the world at the European level. But, I realized that I didn’t want to work in big institutions. I wanted to work locally, close to the people. I needed to see my impact. But I was lost in what to do. In April 2021, I embarked on a sailboat to work for an environmental organisation called Unu Mondo Expedition. I helped them on their communications et press relations for 4 months. We sailed until Iceland. And I loved it! Communicating for projects with environmental and social values is what I really enjoy. After this experience I decided to be a freelance in communication. My environmental and social values are expressed through politics, photography, cooking, arts and sport. I can spend hours in nature, walking, observing animals and listening to birds. When I look for a new project, it’s then around these sectors.

I heard about the EYE program through a friend. It sounded really interesting. My family is from Italy originally, and I’ve always wanted to live in Italy and understand more my roots. And also, I was supposed to finish my master degree in Roma, but it didn’t happen because of covid. So it’s like a little revenge on the lockdown time ! That’s why, I thought it would be a great personal and professional opportunity to participate in EYE.

This experience can contribute to my human and professional growth because, I’m already learning new « ways » of being a freelance, that is to say, it opens new ideas and opportunities. I’m also learning a lot about Italian politics and culture which is good because it allows myself to see outside of the box. It’s been a while since I haven’t lived abroad, and I forgot how rewarding it can be. I’m sharing a lot of values with my host, and we really want to create an interesting collaboration. I’m also doing more and more photographies with film cameras, and I’m really happy to be working with a photographer who is used to work with old cameras as well. And, I’m living with an Italian roommate, so I hope to get better quickly in Italian, which could enable me to maybe work in Italy as well.
