I am not sure what I expected when I booked that flight to Las Palmas. I had a clear plan on paper, but landing somewhere new and actually starting to live and work there is a completely different thing.
The first impression was the atmosphere. Las Palmas has a vibe that is hard to put into words. The weather is good, the people are friendly and relaxed, and that energy carries into how things work here too. I felt it from the first days, in small things, in how people interact, in the pace of conversations, in the way the city moves. It is different from what I was used to in Italy, in a good way.
Matteo’s workspace reflects the same energy. It is a creative environment and Matteo himself is very open and welcoming. He introduced me to his friends quite naturally, which made the first weeks feel less like being a stranger and more like settling into a new place. I have also kept up with sport, which helps a lot when everything around you is new.
On the work side, things started quickly. Matteo has been walking me through how Kimerica Project operates, explaining his workflow, how he manages clients, how projects are structured internally. We have been exchanging ideas and already working on optimising how things are tracked and coordinated internally. It is a real collaboration, not just observation. I am getting involved directly, which is what I needed.
I applied to EYE because I am building a project management consultancy in Italy and I wanted to see how a real business works from the inside. So far it is going well. I am learning a lot, probably more than I expected in just two weeks.
What surprised me most is how much you can learn just by being there. Watching how Matteo handles a client call, how he decides what to prioritise, how he deals with things when they do not go exactly as planned. These are things you cannot study. You just have to see them happen. I still have a lot to figure out, both about the work and about living here, but I think that is kind of the point.
