My name is Ana María, I’m from Spain, and I’m currently in the Netherlands as part of the Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs program. For years, I’ve been deeply interested in visual creation in all its forms —graphic design, photography, video, animation, and the digital language we use to communicate ideas. I hold a degree in Fine Arts and a Master’s in Design, and I’ve worked in a hybrid environment that has allowed me to develop both artistically and professionally.
When I discovered the Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs program, I knew it was exactly what I needed at this stage in my journey. What drew me in was the opportunity to combine real-world work experience with the development of my own business idea — all within an international context. It wasn’t just about living in another country; it was about learning in a new and demanding environment and seeing how things are done beyond Spain.
I’ve now been here for two weeks and I’m working with my host, Sander. My main role is to create visual and promotional content for social media, such as reels and Instagram posts. But beyond these specific tasks, what I value most is the chance to observe how a business functions from the inside. How it’s structured, how people communicate, and which tools and systems they rely on.
These first weeks have been a blend of learning and adaptation. I’ve been adjusting to the country and getting a feel for how work culture functions here. It’s very different from Spain: here, everyone works quite independently, with a strong sense of responsibility and clarity about their role. I really appreciate that, as it encourages initiative and problem-solving. The space where we work is large and inspiring, and I’ve been impressed by the level of technological development and the practical mindset applied to almost everything.
On a personal level, I’ve felt at ease since the beginning. The culture is different, but welcoming, and I’m adapting well. The only minor challenge has been the language in everyday situations like grocery shopping, since most things are in Dutch. Still, I haven’t had any major problems communicating, and I’ve already made a few friends to share plans with on the weekends. Thanks to them, I’ve discovered new places and experienced moments I likely wouldn’t have had on my own.
One of the things I appreciate most about this program is that, beyond collaborating with my host, I also have time to reflect on and develop my own project. I really enjoy that balance — supporting and learning from others while gradually shaping what I want to create. It gives me space to question ideas, organize thoughts, and, most importantly, define my next steps.
Looking ahead, my goal is to continue progressing, gain clarity on how to bring my project to life, and gradually feel more confident in making decisions. I know this process will help me grow not only professionally but also personally. For now, I feel motivated, curious to keep exploring, and ready to make the most of this chapter.
