My Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs Experience in La Gomera
My name is Saija, and I am passionate about yoga, movement, and wellness. Over the years, I’ve transitioned from full-time work to focusing on building my own business. My goal is to create a platform where I can connect with people, share my expertise, and promote healthier lifestyles. While my online presence is still in its early stages—serving as a business card or contact point—I am committed to shaping it into a meaningful resource for clients.
I first heard about the Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs (EYE) program from a friend. Initially, I was unsure about applying, wondering if it was the right fit for me. However, as I started my business, I realized the value of gaining new perspectives, support, and collaborative opportunities. The program offered a unique chance to learn from an experienced entrepreneur while discovering new ideas and approaches.
Arriving in La Gomera has been an exciting yet challenging experience. The timing coincided with the holiday season, adding complexity. Adapting to a sunny, vibrant island after Finland’s dark winter was refreshing but required adjustment. My first weeks focused on settling in, exploring the area, and establishing routines. At the same time, I’ve been navigating the balance between personal adaptation and professional focus.
My host, Rebeca, has been incredibly supportive. Her business, centered on guided tours, offers valuable insights into local culture and entrepreneurship. Observing her approach has given me ideas about incorporating local experiences into my wellness offerings. This exchange is helping me refine my vision by integrating location-specific opportunities with my core philosophy.
While the experience has been enriching, it’s also highlighted areas for growth. Building a business takes time, and my online platform remains a work in progress. Rebeca’s guidance has been helpful, but I’ve realized the importance of finding mentorship specifically tailored to yoga and wellness. Balancing creative ideas with practical implementation and understanding my audience better are ongoing challenges.

Being part of the Cactus CoLiving community has been both inspiring and overwhelming. After a solitary period leading up to this exchange, I’ve had to adjust to being surrounded by people. While I value moments of solitude, engaging with others has led to new connections and opportunities for collaboration.
The EYE program has already contributed significantly to my growth. Rebeca’s support and the experience of adapting to a new environment have encouraged resilience and creativity. I am learning about business operations and gaining a deeper understanding of myself—my strengths, areas to improve, and the balance between ambition and adaptability.
This experience emphasizes the importance of mutual learning and accountability. Rebeca and I are sharing knowledge in ways that will have lasting value. While I came with high expectations, I’ve learned to appreciate the process and remain present. I look forward to continuing this journey, building on what I’ve learned, and growing both personally and professionally through this remarkable opportunity.
