Heyy there!

My name is Martynas and here I am, having embarked on this incredible journey by applying for the Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs Programme in October 2023, and now finding myself on the incredible island of Tenerife, Spain. It feels amazing to be able to enjoy this sunny haven and to be able to delve into the realms of entrepreneurship at the same time. I know that these upcoming five months will be gone in a second, but I want to make sure to get the most out of this experience. I arrived on the island 31st of January, together with my girlfriend to whom I am very thankful to, as she helped me settle down here on my first days.

Currently I am studying and at the same time trying to start my own business. I am doing a masters in business and economics, and one of my bigger passions is finance. When it comes to sports and hobbies I really enjoy playing some beach volleyball as well as hitting the gym. I decided to participate in the EYE program also because of my girlfriend. We were just browsing some opportunities and she came across this program called EYE and she knew right then that this was a perfect opportunity for me. I think she was right, as I think this experience will really help me to develop an entrepreneurial mindset.

The past 15 days have been nothing short of amazing.Immersed in the intricacies of the car rental business, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing how the company navigates through high demand, strategically managing their fleet and adjusting prices accordingly. Even though the company mostly uses Spanish for internal communication, that has given me a push to gradually learn the language on the job and in my free time.
Participating in meetings with external partners which have been conducted in English has been an enlightening experience, seeing how the companies work together. I have had a chance to get hands-on experience while working here. I’ve actively contributed to the company’s software operations, like for example putting in new information into the system and gaining valuable insights. The supportive environment ensures that I always have someone to turn to for guidance, enhancing the overall enjoyment of my work.

The people I’ve had the privilege of working with are not just colleagues; they are mentors and guides. Their attentiveness and willingness to involve me in various aspects of the business have been instrumental in my learning journey. One standout experience has been shadowing the revenue manager as he works on pricing strategies. As I reflect on these initial days, the mix of professional growth and personal warmth in this new environment has exceeded my expectations. I eagerly anticipate the upcoming chapters of my Erasmus experience, knowing that each day brings a new opportunity to learn, connect, and be inspired. It has also been a very giving experience observing how Juan manages his business, the amount of calls and meetings he is having truly shows how much he cares for his business.
